Sig Sauer Rifles

SIG Sauer Rifles- SIG Sauer, originally a Swiss manufacturer and specialist in packaging technology with a German distributor, now manufactures and distributes firearms in the US. Among its offerings are the three lines of Sig Sauer rifles that are given an overview in this article. A lot of people are familiar with the Sig Sauer pistols because they are some of the best pistols out there, but the Sig Sauer rifles are just as good!

History of SIG Sauer

Getting its start as Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft (SIG), SIG overcame the limitations on exporting military weapons by usin the SIG Arms label to sell to American customers in conjunction with J.P. Sauer & Sohn, a Germany company.

The firearms manufacturing component of the company was spun off as Swiss Arms AG in 2000. Then, in 2008, Michael Lüke and Thomas Ortmeier bought the related companies and changed the name to SIG Sauer. SIG Sauer, gained manufacturing capabilities in its move to New Hampshire from Virginia.

SIG Sauer Rifles

The three lines of rifles offered by SIG Sauer are the Blaser, the Sauer, and the SIG.

• Blaser- With the formation of Blaser USA, they will be responsible for exclusive distribution of the hunting rifles, as well as the shotguns, in the Blaser line, while SIG Sauer will distribute the Blaser Tactical 2 rifle. The Tactical 2 is a straight-pull bolt action precision rifle with a range of 1500 meters + for right- or left-handed shooters. It comes with a Picatinny rail for scope mounting and a threaded muzzle to attach a muzzle brake (optional). Rapid caliber interchange can be achieved without tools and in less than a minute by replacing the bolt head and the barrel. It is made for .223 Remington, .308 Win, .300 Win Mag, and .338 Lapua.

• Sauer- The SSG 3000 Tactical rifle was created for long-range one-shot situations, though it is not specifically referred to as a sniper rifle. It has a Picatinny rail for scope attachment and a muzzle brake / flash suppressor. It takes .308 Win / 7.62x51mm NATO caliber ammunition.

• SIG- The SIG line features the SIG516, the SIG 522LR, and the SIG 556.

• SIG 516 has two models: SIG516 Patrol and SIG516 Precision Marksman.
The Patrol is an AR-15/M16 type semiautomatic design. It is built for 5.56 x 45mm NATO ammunition, with a three-position gas piston operating system, and a free-floating barrel. It has a Picatinny rail and a 30-round magazine capacity. The SIG 516 Precision Marksman, which is 1.8 inches shorter, also differs from the Patrol model in having a 2-stage trigger, rather than Mil-Spec, and a 10-round magazine capacity.

• SIG 522LR has two models: SIG522 Classic and SIG522 SWAT. These two rifles are semiautomatic .22 LR rimfire versions of the SIG 556. They include Swiss style folding stocks, an integrated Picatinny rail, and can take 10- or 25-round magazines.

• SIG 566, a semi-automatic for consumers and law enforcement, has six models: the SIG566 Classic, the SIG 556 DMR, the SIG 556 Classic SWAT, the SIG556 SCM, the SIG556 Patrol Rifle, and the SIG556 SWAT Patrol Rifle. The rifles accept standard AR magazines and feature a two-position, adjustable gas piston operating system.
